first of all...introduction...ahh..introduction...first of all...na me write...(lol..u sef don dey dance abi..lol..i just love that Olamide's tune) **clears throat** oya back to business!
I am officially introducing this new feature on my blog titled “Rising Stars” but before I continue on what rising stars is about, I will like to say a big thank you for taking time out to read my last post on Easter Sunday. I was overwhelmed at the total number of views the post got. Thanks again and a happy new month to you.
Rising stars is designed to recognize and celebrate potential talents among youths. Personally, I am a lover of creativity. I always admire young people who exhibit special skills in whatever area of interest they have chosen. Identifying your skill and honing it to maturity is a difficult one and so many of us tend to forget about these God given treasures.
We all celebrate the likes of Tuface, Clarence Peters, House of Tara, P-square, Basket mouth, Linda Ikeji (and the list is endless), but not many of us knew how they started. At some point, their talents were unappreciated and looked down upon. So many of them got comments like:
“Get a life, bro”
“Your mates are studying medicine; you say you want to be singing”
“Instead of you to get a job, you say na blog you wan dey blog; e be lyk say ur people for village don dey take ur destiny do hand fan”
“God forbid! My son will never be a photographer –you will study law”
“You want to be a tailor? Your own eyaff finish…lol”
“See this yeye boi wey talk say hin wan do comedy, na suffer go finish ya head”.
However hilarious these comments are, they are actually true. Many have been discouraged and sought after the life of paid employment and un-fulfillment while the strong ones stuck to their trade and they are now reaping the gains of their perseverance.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not preaching that we should all forget about going to school or ditch paid employment; I am only saying we should stick to what we love doing however odd it may be or sound to people around you or your loved ones.
Enough said! Rising Stars is my own little way of appreciating and supporting these incredible talents capable of changing the course of tomorrow. That little thing you have and you think is worthless is actually what someone is dying to have, so please use it judiciously –for my church mind, me sef dey form pastor, lol. Kudos to those who have recognized their talents (you are on the right path). To does that haven’t, well you just must find it (Please read the footnote)! #lobatan.
NB: Rising stars is going to be published every 30 days on www.freshhouseng.blogspot.com. Each feature will examine the life of a rising star (upcoming talent like they put it on radio and TV). We are not leaving any talent out so if you think you have got something special and you won’t mind us sharing it here on this platform so others can appreciate what you do as well as benefit from it, then this feature is for you. Send your profile and summary of what you do to nigerianpop@yahoo.com and we will consider it for publishing. You can also contact the editor on 08064365247, or follow @FreshHouseNG on twitter.

Footnote: Quick tips on how to find your talent
- Get a pen and a sheet of paper
- Divide the sheet of paper into 4 columns with the following headings (a) Things I can do (b) Things I love or enjoy doing (c) Things people say I am good at (d) Things I will like to learn or do
- Now start to answer the questions raised in each column. Try as much as possible to write at least three (3) answers in each column.
- If you attempt and complete No3 properly, you would have gotten a grasp of what talents you possess.
- For me, I consider column 2 (things I enjoy doing or things I do that makes me happy) the strongest determinant of talents. Consider other columns as well and begin to build necessary skills needed to enhance the selected talents.
I hope these tips helped. You can
as well give us a feedback by leaving a comment on this page or email us on nigerianpop@yahoo.com. Twitter:
